Day 3 – Delphi (part 2)

We celebrated climbing the hill at Delphi with cold drinks and petting the cats that hung around the site. I wish I’d had food to give them.

So cute! Just wanna take them home

I love air conditioned museums, they are great for cooling down after a couple hours out in the sun.

The archaeological museum at Delphi has some pretty cool stuff and lots of it is reasonably intact which is great.

Reconstruction of the site. It would've looked incredible in its time.

The views from the hill are amazing – you can see a long way down the valley

There is another site across the road, but its a long walk down and you need to know the best place to cross, as the footpath is a bit sporadic. We decided at the last minute not to go, as it was too hot and we were all tired. Although, once we drove past it on the bus we could see it had a cafe and a bit of shade under umbrellas, so it would’ve been worth going. Maybe next time.

We headed back to the town for some ice cream and exploration. Delphi looks like the ‘typical’ Greek towns you see in the tourist pamphlets:

It’s beautiful, and I would’ve loved to stay there for a night. We got the KTEL bus at 4pm back to Athens. The bus was packed – some people had to stand, so it was good to have bought the tickets that morning. You can pay in cash on the bus, but I’d rather be prepared. It was definitely worth doing, and I would do it again next time.
